Job growth surges by 312,000 in December.

December numbers blew past expectations (312,000 compared to 176,000 predicted). But unemployment actually rose to 3.9%. “Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting job growth of just 176,000, though they projected the unemployment rate to fall to 3.6 percent. The wage number also was well above expectations of 3 percent on the year and 0.3 percent from November.” READ MORE

 

Amazon’s Virginia regional HQ is focused on veterans as a talent pool.

“Amazon.com Inc.’s planned regional headquarters in the heart of the U.S. military establishment is creating a new potential battleground for veterans. This time, the fight is for them. Amazon says it wants to hire 25,000 staff for its planned facility near Washington, D.C., over the next several years. That would be almost a sixth of the existing private-sector workforce for defense contractors and government IT specialists in the area.” READ MORE

 

IT job growth posted a small gain in November from October after declining in the prior month, according to TechServe Alliance.

The number of IT jobs in the U.S. ticked up by 0.18% sequentially in November to more than 5.3 million. “‘After declining in October, IT employment edged into positive territory in November,’ TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts said. ‘While performing better than last month, we remain in a challenging environment for IT job growth.’” READ MORE
